The reader should note that 3dfx's acquisition by NVIDIA will result in them not being able to provide support for their cards, so purchase a Voodoo3/4/5 card at your own risk. Video cards from 3dfx saw little change in price this week. A notable rise in price came from the Voodoo4 4500 AGP, which rose $26. The Voodoo3 3500 remains a great deal this week at $64. This card is an excellent deal for those wanting TV tuner input and video out on their PCs.
ATI's lineup of cards showed little change this week as well. The 64MB DDR Radeon saw the largest drop in price this week - $13. Those looking for a cheaper, fast Radeon should look at the Radeon 32MB DDR LE. Please read our recent review of this card for information on how to unlock it's hidden potential. Those needing dual display capabilities should look into the ATI Radeon VE.
For NVIDIA this week we also see little change in price. The GeForce3 showed a slight increase in price this week. It can now be found for $344. The GeForce2 ULTRA showed a $5 price reduction and can be found for $243, just over $100 cheaper than the GeForce3. Our favorite, the GeForce2 Pro, can now be found for $178. We recommend the Pro over the standard GTS because it uses faster 5.5ns DDR memory which alleviates some of the memory bandwidth constraints found in 6ns cards.
The KYRO II saw a $6 price drop this week. This card offers performance similar to the GeForce2 GTS but at a cheaper price. The KYRO II is a unique card because it uses a tile based rendering engine. Check out our KYRO II review for more info.
The Matrox line of cards saw minimal changes in price this week. Those looking for excellent dual display capability may wish to purchase the Matrox G450 card as it has proven itself well in this category. For more information check out our Dual Display Comparison.
