Gateway showed off its FX P-series notebook, which starting on the 13th will be available in retail stores. The FX P-series features a Core 2 Duo E5450, mobile GeForce 8800 GTS, 3GB of memory and a 17" 1440 x 900 display. The killer? This notebook will be priced at $1349. A direct, build to order version will also be available later this month. Gateway is still working on mobile Penryn based systems, but motherboard compatibility is a concern, requiring some reworks on its designs. Due out in the next 2 quarters is an updated version of Gateway's 30" display. The display will feature the HQV Reon processor to handle all upscaling to 2560 x 1600. It will also use a 102% color gamut panel, up from the 92% panel that's currently used in the displays. These figures are in reference to NTSC color gamut, meaning that the new panel will be slightly oversaturated, which some consumers prefer.
